An Indiana mother recently accompanied her daughter and her
daughter's boyfriend to one of Indiana's Planned Parenthood
clinics, but they unwittingly walked into a so-called "crisis
pregnancy center" run by an anti-abortion group, one that shared
a parking lot with the real Planned Parenthood clinic and was
designed expressly to lure Planned Parenthood patients and
deceive them.

The group took down the girl's confidential personal information
and told her to come back for her appointment, which they said
would be in their "other office" (the real Planned Parenthood
office nearby). When she arrived for her appointment, not only
did the Planned Parenthood staff have no record of her, but the
police were there. The "crisis pregnancy center" had called
them, claiming that a minor was being forced to have an abortion
against her will.

The "crisis pregnancy center" staff then proceeded to wage a
campaign of intimidation and harassment over the following days,
showing up at the girl's home and calling her father's
workplace. Planned Parenthood's clinic director reports that the
girl was "scared to death to leave her house." They even went to
her school and urged classmates to pressure her not to have an
abortion.

The anti-choice movement is setting up these "crisis pregnancy
centers" across the country. Some of them have neutral-sounding
names and run ads that falsely promise the full range of
reproductive health services, but they dispense anti-choice
propaganda and intimidation instead. And according to a recent
article in The New York Times, there are currently more of these
centers in the U.S. than there are actual abortion providers.
What's more, these centers have received $60 million in
government grants. They're being funded by our tax dollars.

A bill has just been introduced in Congress to stop the
fraudulent practices of fake clinics, but it desperately needs
more support. Tell your representative to take a stand:
anti-choice extremists must not get away with this any longer!

Its interesting that someone that can't read a door sign can make a valid decision to abort a human life. How did she get to the right door the second time? Good thing she didnt walk into an Arby's.

That's an interesting point, and I'll do my best to find out why exactly she walked into the wrong place. I can say, however that based on my information on these "clinics", many of them are designed specifically to look like Planned Parenthood,so that's possible. Also possible is the fact that in many places, Planned Parenthood faces a lot adversity from fundamentalists who are ill informed about the other health services provided at a PP facility, and often times a PP building will be discreetly marked. Consequently, any "clinic" set up adjacent to Planned Parenthood could be easily mistaken as the real thing. Thanks

Not sure why you assume that PP faces adversity from fundamentalists. They face adversity from people that believe that abortion is wrong. My take on it is that I am against abortion, and I would never have an abortion done. However, if you want to have 100 abortions thats up to you, if you want to be the doctor that gives abortions thats up to you to. Maybe those seeking abortions should make a phone call first and find out the right place for them. I probably wouldn't just go knocking on doors to find a place that would kill a baby.

In my opinion the protestors outside of Planned Parenthoods across the country marching back and forth with falsified pictures of dead babies are fundamentalists. Especially when the abortion services that PP may provide are the main focus of the protestors, and they make a conscious decision to ignore all of the other health care services PP provides for ANYONE, male of female regardless of age or income. Perhaps if you read the article a litte more closely you'll see that these women did not "go knocking on doors". Admirable for you to say that you personally oppose abortion, but you leave the decision for someone else to have one or a doctor to perform one up to them. That is the very definition of pro-choice. We need more pro-choice republicans.

So Shanna - if you were pregnant and you were in your 8th month of pregnancy and your boyfriend or husband leaves you, and you are unemployed, and homeless, would you abort an 8th month fetus?? Or would you put the baby up for adoption?
  • shannasweet said 2 years ago
Have you read my other blogs?? I have had an abortion. I cannot presume to know what being 8 months pregnant, unemployed, homeless and alone is like. Fact check for ya, ONE HALF of 1% of abortions are third trimester abortions, consequences of serious health problems with the mother or the fetus. So to answer your question, I don't know what I would do, but I do know that I wouldn't tell someone else what to do,
  • jvanders said 2 years ago
I didnt ask if you would abort a fetus because of the health of the mother or health of the fetus. I just asked would you abort it if you felt you couldnt support it or take care of it. Thats all I asked. and yes I am aware that only 1% are in the third trimester, so what is that 40,000 a year??

  • shannasweet said 2 years ago
I understand what the question was and I answered it "So to answer your question, I don't know what I would do, but I do know that I wouldn't tell someone else what to do," but if you are asking me now if I would abort a fetus if I felt that I couldn't take care of it an answer from the past is yes - b/c I have done so. At this point in my life I don't know what I would do. The issue is far too complex to answer questions according to some " What if " game, there are so many factors in any decision to have an abortion it's more than a matter of hypothetical questions. It's fo rthis reason that no one should be able to make a decision for someone else. Thanks
